A late-night food delivery incident involving a Zomato delivery partner has gone viral on social media, once again highlighting the daily challenges faced by India's gig economy workers. The program initiated the time as per the clock watch to deliver the pizza, or the orders will be 30 minutes or less than half an hour, which makes an employee too tense. As per the widely shared posts, the delivery person unhesitatingly consumed the customer's food as the customer refused to come down to pick up the order at night, which led to an active discussion online and finally the delivery guy consumed the food.

The incident took place late at night when the Zomato agent reached a residential apartment to deliver the order, and while in conversation, the customer made an order to hand it over to the doorstep. However, due to the lack of entry restrictions, security rules, or entry permits, the agent was unable to go upstairs for in-depth news, so he said the delivery boy could not go upstairs as he was with a heavy load and it was 2am at the time. Despite repeated calls and messages, customers refused to come down to collect food. After waiting for an extended period of time without resolution, the delivery partner considers the order undeliverable and marks it as noticed, as the order is not delivered.
What happened next shocked many Daily customers and the public. The officer allegedly ate the food and then shared his experience online or described it in a viral post, which drew a huge response and got the post viral within no time, working late hours on roads. The story quickly spread across social media platforms, garnering mixed reactions from users across the country about his personal experience.
Many social media users expressed support for the delivery boy, pointing out that delivery partners often work late into the night in stressful situations, facing a lot of fear coming on the way by accidents and sometimes by the dogs even, face safety issues, and are often treated unfairly by customers. Many argue that consumers have an obligation to cooperate; especially when building rules, we should, or the company should, build more guideline policies, and we must also take care about the delivery agents and prevent delivery persons from entering buildings.
On the other hand, some customers criticized the action of the delivery person, stating that it does not seem professional for the customer to eat the order they wanted to cancel, regardless of knowing the circumstances. They stressed that food delivery platforms should have clear rules for handling undelivered orders, including proper disposal or automated refunds, instead of leaving such decisions to delivery drivers. which brings an upgrade for the delivery agents to reject the orders under 99+% of consistency to reach the customer.
As EnkoorInfo.in observed, with food delivery becoming an important part of urban day-to-day life, collaboration from both sides is crucial to avoid such disputes—especially when it comes to late delivery along with safety and security along with comfort zone.
